PG 2015 National Showcase

2015 showcase

Alec Marsh is a 2016 RHP/3B with a 6-2 195 lb. frame from Milwaukee, WI who attends Reagan College Prep. Large frame with lean, athletic build and solid present strength, still projects to fill out nicely. Easy, well-paced leg lift delivery with slight hip turn at apex and nice, loose arm-action. Works to an overhand armslot, will occasionally land with closed front foot, generally repeats mechanics well. Fastball up to 90 mph, generates big downhill plane and angle from high slot, hard to square up pitch when located down in the zone. Changeup was a devastating pitch, showed big dive and was thrown with very good armspeed, offering falls off table and disappears late. Flashes feel for low-70s curveball with 11/5 shape and solid depth. Very good performance on the mound with impressive feel for pitching. Right handed hitter, starts with a wide base and high hand set. Toe-tap timing trigger, rotational swing, shows some feel for barrel. Very good student. Verbal commitment to Arizona State University.

From Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

Reagan pulls off upset as it stuns Arrowhead

Arrowhead, which had taken the state by storm in its first season of spring ball, finished 27-2. The Warhawks have seven Division I players on its roster and Alec Marsh handled them all.

The junior right hander struck out 10 and allowed five hits for the Huskies. Earlier in the day his double in the eighth inning was the difference in a 1-0 victory over City Conference rival Riverside.

From Lake Country Sports:

Reagan shocks No. 1-ranked Arrowhead baseball team

Junior right-hander Alec Marsh of Reagan allowed just four runners to get as far as second base. Marsh also held the Warhawks to five hits, their lowest total of the season.

“Their kid threw well,” said AHS coach Vince Mancuso. “We knew that was going to be the guy we were going to see. From the get-go, we knew he would be tough.”

Brenn Stapleton makes contact at the plate during a playoff game against Milwaukee Hamilton at MATC in Oak Creek on June 9.

From Milwaukee Public Schools:

Reagan upsets top-ranked Arrowhead, heads to state baseball tournament

The 5-0 win came in a sectional final match, with the Huskies handing Arrowhead one of the only two losses the team had all season.  Reagan is the first MPS baseball team to make state since the Riverside University High School Tigers in 2009.

2016 Top Prospects

Alec Marsh – RHP – 2016 – Milwaukee, WI
Marsh has good upside on the mound as this 2016 has a good pitching build with room to fill out. He pitched in the 87-89 range and mixed in a sharp cutter at 85. Fastball had good life when down in the zone. Will be an interesting to see his development over the next year.

Spotlight Feature in THE RODE SHOW

Prep Baseball Report’s National Supervisor Nathan Rode, travels coast to coast  to see the top athletes. He provides analysis and interviews some of the best players in the nation.  Alec was the featured prospect in Mr. Rode’s March 20th article.

In the world of recruiting and the draft, here are some noteworthy news items from this week…2016 RHP Alec Marsh (Reagan College Prep, WI) has blossomed into one of Wisconsin’s top arms in an already deep class of prospects. He has been making steady progress in the last year and sat 90-91 mph, touching 92, at the Madison Preseason ID showcase last weekend. He has good athleticism that makes him an attractive two-way prospect, but his mound presence and command of the zone gives him more upside as a pitcher. He is young in the face and has room to fill out his 6-foot-2, 200-pound frame. Marsh has seen a ton of interest from colleges in recent weeks, hearing from a long list of schools. He lists his favorites as Florida, Georgia, Illinois State, Kentucky, North Carolina and Vanderbilt.

Wisconsin Baseball Central Milwaukee City Conference Aiming For Bounce Back Year

However, the team’s biggest strength may be a newcomer. Junior Alec Marsh, who is one of the best pitchers in Wisconsin’s junior class, will play for the Huskies this spring. Marsh recently touched 92 MPH with his fastball, and he should dominate City Conference hitters with his repertoire. With the best pitching staff in the conference, the Huskies are the strong favorites to repeat as champions.

Wisconsin Class of 2016 Rankings Updated

Today the Prep Baseball Report published an update of the class of 2016 player rankings.  I’m excited to see that I’ve made it into the overall top 10!

Prep Baseball Report Wisconsin News

Steve Nielsen, Scouting Supervisor for Wisconsin & Illinois said “Marsh has always been a projectable arm that has shown command and an easy arm action, but now has added the velocity to go with it. The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder sat 87 mph at the Southern Wisconsin Open touching 88 mph on his last pitch. The sky is the limit for Marsh as he moves his way into the top ten at No. 8.”

Seems fitting that I’d be number 8 in the state, since ‘I’ve worn the number 8 jersey for the past 5 years. LOL!

I’m excited to see what opportunities come with this exciting development!

Fall Ball Recap

I’ve been very busy this autumn. Fall Ball began back in early August and I’ve played all over the midwest, against a much higher level of competition than I saw most of the summer. Much to my surprise, PT invited me to move up and play with the U17 team. I saw faster pitchers, better batters and tougher competition. Despite all of this, I found my stats improving dramatically.

I hit five home runs in the Fall season and I had one of the best RBI averages in the organization. I was placed as the 5 hitter in the line up, and was able to make a lot of runs, when we really needed them.

I also saw a lot of improvement on the mound. I pitched a perfect game, and brought my walk ratio way down. I spent more time with Cody ( my head coach ) on speed, strength and form. I finally threw over 90 mph for the first time in my life at the Sandlot ( our practice space ). I was clocked consistently in the mid 80s at many of our games, and my pitch diversity has really gotten much better.

I ended the Fall with a trip to the Prep Baseball Report Southern Wisconsin Open, in Oconomowoc this weekend. I was pleased with my offensive stats, and I was able to hit 88 mph on the mound, and sat at 87 throughout the showcase. I’m excited to get my stats back from PBR
